What do I think of Naruto?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Some of you may have seen these on my art galleries, and the biggest thing I’m asked is always “why??”.

T-Virus Container Prototype

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

For fans of the Resident Evil game series, you’ll recognise the vial below as one of those held in the dying hand of Dr William Birkin.

Vial Prototype

It’s just a prototype though, and I’ve learnt a lot from it. I already have improved tooling in the works and a production procedure that will give a much finer finish. In addition, I also now have a supply of UV reactive dyes that will give a superior look to the fluid as well as making them glow under UV.

Reproductions of those from the game series will be available for about £50 each, as well as with various accessories such as Birkins needle and the G-Virus sample container seen for a scant few seconds near the end of RE:2.

Reproductions of the movie-style containers will also be available on demand for a slightly higher price.

And furthermore, for the dedicated cosplayer or fan-film maker, mechanicly functional versions of the vials are an option for commissioners who want to be able to show fluid being syphoned off.

Mecha Ear Demonstrator

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

For those who didn’t get to see these at Confuzzled, I brought with me a concept demonstrator. This concept shows the mechanical range required to get basic emotive movements in a set of anthro ears.

Ironing board mod

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

At the request of a friend I recently took on this unusual commission.

Because of their height and joint problems, off the shelf ironing boards were too short for them. So this meant raising the working height of a board to 120cm.

Current status

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

What do I have on my plate at the moment? Active commissions are:

  • Sketchbook commission for Fuzzy Skunk (art)
  • Mechanical wings for Jocasta (custom costuming)
  • Customisation of an ironing board for Ewt (customisation)

In R&D, I’ve worked out a better process for making T-Virus canisters with a better finish. I’m also currently working on the angles involved with the Mecha Ears development, and trying to source the right control cables for the budget model.

The concept demonstrator unfortunately did not have a pleasant ride home from Confuzzled, and again highlighted the need for strong pivots on the production versions.

The UV reactive dyes arrived a couple of days after my return home from the con, and I now just await an order of tool steel. This will allow me to make the custom lathe tools required for the best virus container machining. The polycarbonate sheeting for Jocastas wings arrived yesterday.

Starborne Works in the works

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Well, WordPress is installed and running. I’m using this rather nice theme temporarily, afterall it’s the content that’s the important thing.

And speaking of content, I’ve now gotten the initial categories and calendar established, as are the pages for finding out information on myself, what I’m doing here, how to acquire my services and how to contact me.

For all those keen folk who came by my stall at Confuzzled this year, I hope I won’t disappoint. I’ll be adding content shortly. Thankyou for swinging by here as well, and I hope it’s been worth the journey!
